Honor Phones Under R2000 in South Africa

An Honor phone under R2000 is a new, network unlocked Honor handset with 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage that ships with the Google Play Store and carries a full one year warranty. As of October 2026 the Honor range at Smartphone Shop starts just under R2000 and runs up to the 600 series.

The prices shown on the product cards above are live. They update as stock and exchange rates change, so what you see there is always the current price.

Honor sits in an odd position in South Africa. It is a brand plenty of people recognise and very few people can explain, and that confusion costs buyers money at this end of the market. So before the handsets, the two questions that decide whether an Honor phone is right for you.

Is Honor the Same Company as Huawei

Honor is not Huawei. Huawei sold Honor in November 2020 to a consortium of its own dealers and agents, kept no shareholding in it, and the two have operated as separate companies ever since.

That sale is the single most useful fact about buying an Honor phone, and almost nobody selling them in South Africa mentions it. Here is why it matters. When Huawei lost access to Google services, every Huawei handset stopped shipping with the Google Play Store. Anyone who remembers that reasonably assumes Honor has the same problem.

It does not. Honor came out of that sale as an independent company and its phones ship with Google services installed.

If you specifically want a Huawei handset, and some people do because the hardware is good and the price is lower, Huawei Phones Under R3000 covers that band and explains the app situation in full. If what you want is a budget phone that behaves like every other Android phone you have owned, Honor is the safer pick of the two.

Can You Use Google Apps on Honor Phones

Every Honor phone Smartphone Shop sells ships with the Google Play Store installed. Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome and the Play Store are all there out of the box, and your banking app will install from the Play Store the way it does on any Android handset.

We confirm this on the product page for every Honor handset we stock, because it is the question we are asked most about the brand.

That matters more at this price than higher up the range. A budget phone is usually somebody's only phone, so it has to run a banking app, a work app and WhatsApp without a workaround. An Honor handset under R2000 does.

The Honor Phones Under R2000 We Have in Stock

HandsetRAM and storageWhy you would pick it
Honor X5c4GB, 64GBThe cheapest new Honor we sell with a full warranty
Honor Choice T104GB, 64GBA bigger battery, and nothing to learn

Both are dual SIM, network unlocked and ICASA approved, and both carry a one year manufacturing warranty. The Choice T10 is the one to take if battery life matters more to you than anything else, and the X5c is the one to take if you want the lowest price with a warranty behind it.

Neither of these is a phone for gaming or for photography in poor light. Both are phones for calls, WhatsApp, banking, maps, music and a camera that does well in daylight, which is what most people at this price need.

Are There Honor Phones Under R1500

There are no Honor phones under R1500 in stock at Smartphone Shop today. The Honor range here starts just under R2000, and when a sub-R1500 Honor handset is available it sells out quickly.

That is worth saying plainly rather than leaving you to work it out. If your budget is firmly under R1500 you have two honest options. Either wait and stretch to the entry point of the Honor range, or look at the other brands in that band, which sit in Phones Under R3000 and All Cellphones.

What we would not suggest is buying a second hand Honor at that money. The battery is the part that fails on a budget handset, you cannot see its condition in a classifieds photograph, and there is nobody to call when it goes. The exception is a properly graded device, and ours sit in Pre-Owned iPhones rather than in the Honor range.

What an Honor Phone Under R2000 Gets You

An Honor phone under R2000 gets you 4GB of memory, 64GB of storage, 4G LTE, two SIM slots and a battery that sees out a normal day.

Memory is the specification that decides whether a budget phone feels quick or feels broken, and 4GB is the point at which it stops feeling broken. Two years ago this money bought 2GB or 3GB. That single change is why a budget Honor bought now is still usable in three years where one bought in 2023 often was not.

What you do not get is 5G, a flagship camera or the fastest processor on the market. None of that is a flaw at this price, it is what the price buys. If 5G is the thing you want, 5G Phones sets out where it is worth having in South Africa and where it is not, and our guide to 4G and 5G goes through the difference without the marketing.

The specification worth stretching for, if you can, is storage. 64GB fills faster than people expect once photos and apps are on it.

Honor Phones Under R3000 and Above

Honor phones under R3000 and above are where storage doubles and the cameras become noticeably better.

HONOR X6e is the first step up and the one we would point most people at if the budget reaches it, because it doubles the storage. Honor X7d adds memory and storage again. Above that, HONOR 600 Lite and Honor X9d 5G bring 5G into the picture, and Honor 400 5G, HONOR 600 and HONOR 600 Pro 5G sit at the top of what we carry.

The full range is on Honor, and Smartphones Under R5000 is the better page if you are shopping by budget rather than by brand. Other brands in the same band sit in Xiaomi, OPPO, Realme, Vivo and Huawei.

Dual SIM and Why Network Unlocked Matters

Every Honor phone Smartphone Shop sells is dual SIM and network unlocked, and on a budget handset that combination is worth real money over two years.

Most retailers sell network locked phones. The handset only works on the network that sold it, so moving means a new number or paying to have it unlocked. Ours work on Vodacom, MTN, Telkom and Cell C the moment you open the box, and every one is approved by ICASA, South Africa's communications regulator, which keeps a public database of type approved equipment.

Dual SIM is what turns that into savings. Keep your usual number on the first SIM. Put a second SIM in for data on whichever network is running the better deal that month. Cheaper data, same number, one phone.

On a cheap phone this matters more than on an expensive one, because over two years the data bill is the bigger number.

Buying an Honor Phone Outright Rather Than on Contract

An Honor phone bought outright is paid for, and it is yours. The same handset on a two year contract costs considerably more by the time it ends, and you are tied to one network for the duration, which cancels the dual SIM saving above.

At this end of the market the sum is especially lopsided, because the monthly figure looks small and the total does not. Our piece on why buying upfront beats a contract runs the numbers properly, and buying on credit covers the middle path if paying in one go is not realistic this month.

Buying several handsets for a business, a school or a team? Bulk and wholesale orders is the page for that, and the pricing works differently.

Buying Honor Phones from an Independent Shop

Smartphone Shop has traded online since 2010. We are not a network store and we are not a chain. That usually makes us cheaper, and it definitely makes us easier to reach. All our phones are network unlocked and ICASA approved, and every phone we sell carries a one year manufacturing warranty.

Some of our stock is global variant rather than local-badged. We say so on the product page where it applies, it is part of why the price is lower, and it carries the same one year warranty as everything else we sell.

Cheap Honor Phones, and Making One Last

On a cheap Honor phone the battery decides when the handset is finished, not the screen and not the processor. Look after it and the phone lasts as long as an expensive one.

Our guide to charging your phone to save the battery is the most useful thing to read after buying one. The short version is to avoid running flat to zero and avoid leaving it at 100 percent on charge all night.

A case and a screen protector earn their money on a phone at this price, since a cracked screen costs a meaningful share of what the handset cost. Those sit in cellphone accessories. Worth reading too: our look at the Redmi 12C, which shows what the budget band looked like a generation ago, and the Redmi Note 10 Pro, which shows what one band up buys you. If the phone is going somewhere rough, Rugged Smartphones are built for it, and Tablets cover the bigger screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Honor the same company as Huawei?

Honor is not Huawei. Huawei sold Honor in November 2020 to a consortium of its dealers and agents and kept no shareholding, so the two have been separate companies since. That is why Honor handsets ship with the Google Play Store and Huawei handsets sold here do not. If you remember Huawei losing Google apps, that problem does not apply to Honor.

Can I use Google apps on Honor phones?

Yes. Every Honor phone Smartphone Shop sells ships with the Google Play Store installed, so Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome and your banking app all work the way they do on any Android handset. We confirm it on each Honor product page, because it is the question we are asked most about the brand.

What is the cheapest Honor phone in South Africa?

The Honor X5c is the cheapest new Honor handset we sell with a full one year warranty, and it sits just under R2000. The Honor Choice T10 is alongside it at a similar price with a larger battery. Both are dual SIM, network unlocked and ICASA approved, and the live price on each product card above is always current.

Are there Honor phones under R1500?

Not in stock with us today. The Honor range here starts just under R2000, and sub-R1500 Honor handsets sell out quickly when they appear. If your budget is firmly under R1500, other brands in that band sit in Cheap Phones, and we would steer you away from a second hand Honor because the battery condition is unknowable.

Which Honor phone should I buy under R2000?

The Honor Choice T10 if battery life is what matters to you, and the Honor X5c if the lowest price with a warranty is what matters. Both carry 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage. If the budget can stretch a little past R2000, the HONOR X6e doubles the storage and is the better long term buy.

Are Honor phones any good?

Honor phones are a reasonable buy at the budget end because they run standard Android with full Google apps and the hardware is competent for the money. They will not take flagship photographs or run demanding games. What they will do is handle calls, WhatsApp, banking, maps and daylight photographs without the compromises people expect at this price.

Do Honor phones work on South African networks?

Yes, and on any of them. Most retailers sell network locked phones, which ties you to one network and often means changing your number. Every Honor phone we sell is network unlocked and ICASA approved, so it works on Vodacom, MTN, Telkom and Cell C out of the box, and every one takes two SIMs.

What warranty do Honor phones come with?

Every Honor phone Smartphone Shop sells carries a one year manufacturing warranty, global variant stock included. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. It does not cover physical damage, liquid damage or unauthorised software changes. Full terms sit on our Returns and Refunds Policy page.

Is it better to buy an Honor phone outright or on contract?

Outright, at this end of the market especially. A two year contract on a budget handset costs considerably more by the time it ends, and it locks you to one network, which cancels the saving two SIMs would have given you. The monthly figure looks small and the total does not.

How much is delivery and can I return it?

We deliver anywhere in South Africa and orders arrive within 1 to 4 working days. The delivery cost is shown at checkout before you pay. Returns are free, we arrange and pay for the courier, and the window is 7 business days.
