OPPO

OPPO phones sit in an awkward spot in South Africa. Cheap enough that people wonder what the catch is, good enough that the ones who buy them keep buying them. We have sold OPPO since it arrived here, and the honest answer is that the catch is mostly the badge. Everything below is in stock and priced today, from an independent shop that has been selling phones online since 2010.

OPPO Phones in South Africa

Smartphone Shop stocks OPPO phones across three ranges: the A series for everyday budgets, the Reno series for people who care about the camera, and the Find X flagship line. OPPO entered South Africa in September 2020 and now sits in the group of Chinese brands taking share from Samsung and Apple, alongside Xiaomi and Honor.

Every OPPO phone on this page runs Android with the Google Play Store installed, and every phone we sell is network unlocked and ICASA approved. The prices shown on the product cards above are live. They update as stock and exchange rates change, so what you see there is always the current price.

Which OPPO Series Is Right for You: A, Reno or Find X

OPPO sells three series in South Africa: A for budget, Reno for camera, Find X for flagship. Almost nobody explains them, so here they are in one table.

SeriesWho it is forWhat you give upRough band
A seriesEveryday use, WhatsApp, banking, social, a second phoneSlower chip, simpler cameraUnder R10,000
Reno seriesPeople who take a lot of photos and want a phone that feels expensiveNot the outright fastestR10,000 to R20,000
Find X seriesBuyers who want the best OPPO makesPriceAbove R20,000

The number after the letter is the generation, so a Reno15 is newer than a Reno13. F means a lighter version of that generation. Pro means the fuller one. That is the whole naming system.

OPPO A Series Phones

The A series is where most South African OPPO sales happen. The OPPO A6x is the entry point, with 64GB of storage and a dual SIM tray. The OPPO A40 doubles the storage to 128GB and is the better buy if you keep photos on the phone rather than in the cloud.

Above those sit the OPPO A6 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and the OPPO A6 Pro 5G, which adds 5G. If you are not sure whether 5G is worth paying for where you live, our guide to the difference between 4G and 5G covers it in plain terms.

OPPO Reno Series Phones

The Reno range is OPPO's camera line. The OPPO Reno15 F 5G carries 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which is more storage than most people fill in the life of a phone. The OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G is the fuller version of the same generation.

OPPO launched the Reno15 series in South Africa in January 2026, so these are the current generation rather than older models being cleared out. That matters more than it sounds. A phone two generations back will stop getting Android updates years before a current one does.

OPPO Find X9 Pro

The OPPO Find X9 Pro is OPPO's flagship and the first Find series phone properly launched in South Africa. It runs a MediaTek Dimensity 9500, carries 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and supports eSIM as well as a physical dual SIM tray.

It is not a phone most people need, and that is true of any flagship. What you get is OPPO at full stretch: the fastest chip in the range, the most memory, the most storage and the strongest camera system OPPO builds. If you want the best they make, this is it.

What ColorOS Is

ColorOS is OPPO's version of Android. It is not a different operating system. Your Google account, the Play Store, Gmail, Maps and every banking app work exactly as they do on any other Android phone.

The current version is ColorOS 16, which started rolling out in November 2025. If you are moving from a Samsung, the layout takes a day or two to get used to and then stops being a thing you notice.

OPPO Battery Life and Load Shedding

Battery capacity is the spec worth checking hardest in South Africa, because a phone that cannot get through a stage 4 evening is a phone you will resent. OPPO has leaned into this: the A6k launched here in May 2026 with a 6,500mAh battery, and the A series generally runs larger batteries than equivalently priced phones from the bigger brands.

Charging habits matter as much as capacity. Our piece on how to charge your phone to save the battery and a driver's account of real world battery life are both worth five minutes before you buy.

OPPO Tablets, Earbuds and Cases

OPPO makes more than phones and the accessories are usually where the value sits. The OPPO Pad SE is a 4G LTE tablet, so it takes a SIM and works away from wifi. The OPPO Pad Neo Smart Case protects it. The OPPO Enco Buds 3 Pro are true wireless earbuds that undercut most of what sits next to them on the shelf.

More of the same sits in Tablets, Headphones, Wearable Tech and Cellphone Accessories.

How OPPO Compares to the Other Brands We Stock

We stock OPPO next to Honor, Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung, and we will tell you plainly when another brand is the better buy at your budget. Below about R3,000, Xiaomi usually wins on raw specifications. Around R10,000 to R15,000, Honor's update promise is longer. OPPO's argument is the camera and the battery, and at the A series end it is a strong one.

Buying OPPO from an Independent Shop

Smartphone Shop has traded online since 2010 and holds a 4.9 rating across 123 Google reviews. We are not a network and we are not a chain, which means two things. We are usually cheaper than the operator stores, and we will answer the phone. All our phones are network unlocked and ICASA approved, and every phone we sell carries a one year manufacturing warranty.

Some of our stock is global variant rather than local-badged. We say so on the product page when it applies, and it is part of why the price is lower. Read About Us for how we work, Delivery and Returns for shipping and returns terms, and our FAQs for everything else. If you are weighing a contract against buying outright, we set out four reasons to avoid cellphone contracts and how buying on credit works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are OPPO phones good phones?

Yes, within their price band. OPPO phones run standard Android with full Google services, carry larger than average batteries, and the Reno and Find X ranges have genuinely strong cameras. What you are not buying is Samsung's resale value or service network. For most buyers under R15,000 that trade is worth making.

Is OPPO better than Samsung?

Neither brand wins outright. Samsung holds roughly half the South African market and has the wider repair network and stronger resale value. OPPO typically gives you a bigger battery and a better camera for the same money, and every OPPO we sell is network unlocked with a one year warranty. Which one suits you comes down to whether you value the ecosystem or the specification.

Which OPPO phone is best?

The Find X9 Pro is the best phone OPPO sells in South Africa. The best OPPO for most people is an A series model, because the gap in daily use between a R7,000 A6 and a R28,000 Find X9 Pro is far smaller than the gap in price. Buy the camera only if you actually use it.

Do OPPO phones work on South African networks?

Yes. OPPO phones sold through Smartphone Shop work on Vodacom, MTN, Telkom and Cell C. All current models are dual SIM. The 5G models connect to 5G where your network has it, and fall back to 4G everywhere else.

Do OPPO phones have Google Play?

Yes. OPPO phones ship with Google Mobile Services, so the Play Store, Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Chrome and every South African banking app install and work normally. OPPO has never been subject to the restrictions that affected Huawei.

How much do OPPO phones cost in South Africa?

OPPO phones on this page run from under R2,000 for an entry level A series handset to around R28,000 for the Find X9 Pro. Prices change with stock and the exchange rate, so the figures on the product cards above this text are the live ones. Cheaper OPPO models also appear in Smartphones Under R5000.

What is the difference between a Reno and a Reno F?

The F is the lighter version of the same generation. A Reno15 F and a Reno15 Pro share the generation number and the design language, but the Pro carries the better camera system and the faster chip. If the specification sheet is not the reason you are buying, the F is usually the smarter spend.
